Artichoke Screenprint

By Erika Moen on August 20, 2012

Oh my gosh, I am so excited to finally have finished this design! Would you believe I actually started working on it in freaking June?? CRAZY.

The original pencil sketch.
For this project I wanted to push myself to do a more complex design than any of my previous ones, using two regular inks and one metallic. It… wound up being a lot harder than I’d anticipated. In fact, I had to scrap my first pass at the design because I hadn’t put enough planning into it in the drawing phase to make it work while being screenprinted.

Plus, I had a million completely bizarre disasters spring up, from glass exploding in my hands to screens getting shredded to hinges getting torn right out of the table! Which is why it took from June – August to FINALLY finish this poor design.

But in the end, it was totally worth it, because not only did I learn a TON of really valuable information, but the prints also came out pretty damn nice too, if I do say so myself.

Check how the gold shines out from that deep, rich green, huh? Man, I’m such a sucker for artichokes! What is with that? Dang, I don’t even know. Why fight it? They’re just rad as hell.

Here’s the sweet deets:
15″ x 11.5″
Green, purple, and gold inks
Arches cotton, acid-free, 250gm Buff paper with deckled edge
Limited edition of 35
Being the little Ferengi that I am, of course these prints are available for sale!
