Why It Is Important to Have Queer Comics

Aw man, I’m so stoked I got a shout out in Maria Burnham’s article on the Huffington Post, “Why It Is Important to Have Queer Comics“, along with Alison Bechdel, Joey Sayers, and Brian Andersen.

Thank you so much, Maria!

And! Today is the LAST day of my screenprint and minicomic giveaway through my store!

Don’t forget I’m giving away a free minicomic with EVERY order and a free screenprint with Super Book Pack orders until May 16th!

Candide at the Portland Opera

Along with a whole slew of cartoonists, the Portland Opera invited us to come draw and live tweet the dress rehearsal of their production of Candide.

At the end, they recorded a few of of us talking about our impressions!

I’m behind on a ton of projects, so I haven’t had time to post my sketches yet, but you can see a sampling from a handful of the other artists over on the Portland Opera’s “Cartoonists At the Opera” page, which collects artwork (including some of mine!) from all the previous shows as well. Oh! Or you could scroll through all 400+ post compilation made of Candide being live tweeted to search for my camera phone shots of my sketches and photos.

Don’t forget I’m giving away a free minicomic with EVERY order and a free screenprint with Super Book Pack orders until May 16th!

Jello Kitty

Hahaha, my photo of a kitty made of Jello is featured on Cooking.com! And yes, yes it was just as delicious to eat as it was fun to jiggle.

I also took a video, too:

A Queer Journey on Comics Bulletin

Laura Akers skipped the fluff and went straight for the hard questions in this interview with me on Comics Bulletin, Erika Moen: A Queer Journey. I’ll be honest with you guys, it was hard to answer some of those questions! But they were good and I’m really pleased with how this interview turned out. Thank you so much to Laura for digging a bit deeper with me!

Comics Alliance: Erika Moen Draws Squishy, Satisfying Sex Comics

Comics Alliance: Erika Moen Draws Squishy, Satisfying Sex Comics

Oh my gosh, Lauren Davis wrote this really, really kind article on my various sex-related comics!

Hot damn, I’m so fucking flattered I don’t even know what to do with myself!

It makes my heart so, so happy when somebody completely “gets” what my comics are supposed to be about, what I’m trying to say with them. A hundred different people will take away a hundred different messages from my work, and I can’t fault them when they project a completely unintended message onto it (we’re all entitled to interpret art and stories however we see fit!), but when I do encounter the people who are completely on the same page as me and 100% take away the message I was HOPING would come across… well. It feels pretty good.

Bucko Interview on Comics Alliance

Lauren Davis interviewed Jeff Parker and me for Comics Alliance about our comic Bucko, which just wrapped up over a week ago at 102 pages long. Thank you so much for the spotlight, Comics Alliance! Flapjack even makes a guest appearance at the end, being all gorgeous and sitting on my lightbox.

For the moment I have to keep it under my hat, but when Emerald City Comicon finally rolls around March 30th in Seattle, I’ll finally be able to spill all the beans about the upcoming Bucko book. Until then, just trust me, Parker and I have got reason to be excited!

If you never got around to getting started, now is the perfect time to sit down and read Bucko all the way through.

American Cinematographer Magazine

Haha! Thanks to our studiomate, David Hahn, for spotting this full page ad in this month’s issue of American Cinematographer of Dylan and me! It was taken several years ago (…2008?) by my favorite photographer, Elisa Lazo de Valdez –AKA Visioluxus.

Here’s what the original version looked like:

Boy Howdy Podcast, Episode 11

My rad friends had me back on to the Boy Howdy Podcast for episode 11! I show up about half-way through to help Bill and Anne discuss Disney’s Pinocchio– which was a marked improvement from Snow White (Remember when we talked about that for episode six?)

Dan Savage Podcast

Holy craaaaaaaaaaaap my call made it onto episode 271 of the Savage Love Cast! (I can’t seem to find a functional permalink to that entry, so if you can’t find the episode, here is a direct link to the .mp3. My call starts at the 2:30 mark.)

Earlier this month I posted the video of me making this call, because I figured it would never make it on air and I thought some people might enjoy the story of Matt meeting my parents for the first time. –But now! OH DANG!!

I’m so incredibly stoked! I’ve listened to every single one of his podcasts and Matt and I read his column every week together at our coffee shop and oh my gosh he is kiiiiiiiinda sorta one of my heroes.

Here’s the photo I had taken with him and his husband Terry when they came through Portland in April:

Meeting Dan Savage

I would just like to take this moment to thank my mother for giving me a horrible holiday not-sex story that I could share with thousands of strangers for years to come.

Truly, it is the gift that keeps on giving.
